  • Lawyers: Allowed.
  • Appeals: 30 days, Supreme Court (no new trial).

Deadlines to file a lawsuit in Oklahoma

The deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit in Oklahoma is generally 2 years, which is the same as the most common period of 2 years across the country (Okla. Stat. Ann. Tit. 12, § 95). For a written contract the period is 5 years and for an oral contract 3 years.

Worth knowing: Government claims require advance notice.

Deadlines can start later or pause in some situations, and claims against government bodies often have much shorter notice periods. See what a statute of limitations is and what to do after a car accident.

Security deposits in Oklahoma

Landlords in Oklahoma must return a tenant's security deposit within about 45 days (45 days after move-out and the tenant's written request; § 41-115). Missing the deadline can cost a landlord the right to keep deductions, and some states add penalties.
