Deadlines to file a lawsuit in Pennsylvania

The deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit in Pennsylvania is generally 2 years, which is the same as the most common period of 2 years across the country (42 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 5524). For a written contract the period is 4 years and for an oral contract 4 years.

Deadlines can start later or pause in some situations, and claims against government bodies often have much shorter notice periods. See what a statute of limitations is and what to do after a car accident.

Security deposits in Pennsylvania

Landlords in Pennsylvania must return a tenant's security deposit within about 30 days (30 days; § 250.512). Missing the deadline can cost a landlord the right to keep deductions, and some states add penalties.
