Deadlines to file a lawsuit in Rhode Island
The deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit in Rhode Island is generally 3 years, which is longer than the most common period of 2 years across the country (R.I. Gen. Laws § 9-1-14). For a written contract the period is 10 years and for an oral contract 10 years.
Worth knowing: Longer for government liability claims.
Deadlines can start later or pause in some situations, and claims against government bodies often have much shorter notice periods. See what a statute of limitations is and what to do after a car accident.

Landlords in Rhode Island must return a tenant's security deposit within about 20 days (20 days; § 34-18-19). Missing the deadline can cost a landlord the right to keep deductions, and some states add penalties.
